How to avoid scammers when buying a Thermomix

If you’ve been searching for a Thermomix online, you may have noticed something worrying: a growing number of scam listings on eBay, Amazon, Facebook Marketplace and even standalone websites claiming to sell Thermomix machines at “too good to be true” prices. Sadly, several people have reported losing money to these fake listings recently — so before you hand over any details, here’s what to look out for:

1. The price is the biggest giveaway

The Thermomix is sold at a fixed price across the UK, set by Vorwerk — it isn’t something that gets discounted or put on sale in the way other kitchen appliances are. The only exception is the Channel Islands, where VAT doesn’t apply, and they have other taxes regulated by their own local government, so the price is genuinely lower here than in the mainland UK.

Outside of that, if you see a Thermomix advertised well below the standard price, that’s a strong sign something isn’t right. Genuine deals do exist, but they usually come as added value rather than a lower price, for example:

• A free extra bowl or accessory bundled in

• A gift with purchase

• Interest-free payment plans

If someone is offering the Thermomix itself for noticeably less money, be cautious.

2. Buy from a real, named advisor

Thermomix are sold through independent advisors — there’s no open retail model, which is exactly why scammers try to imitate it. A genuine advisor will have:

• A visible advisor number on their website (mine is displayed at the bottom of every page)

• A real name and direct contact details — a phone number and personal email, not just a contact form

• A social media presence with a genuine history — real posts, real followers, real dates

• The ability to demo the machine in person or over video call before you buy

If a website or listing doesn’t clearly show who you’re actually buying from, that’s a red flag.

3. Be wary of marketplaces altogether

eBay, Amazon, and similar marketplaces are common hunting grounds for scammers because they offer some buyer protection in theory, but disputes over big-ticket items like this can be slow, stressful, and don’t always end in your favour. Genuine advisors don’t typically need to sell through these platforms — we sell directly, with our name and reputation attached.

4. All payments go through Vorwerk directly — never the advisor

This is one of the most important things to know: a genuine advisor never takes your payment themselves, and money should never go directly to an advisor’s own account or a separate website. All transactions go through Vorwerk’s own platform. In practice, this means paying one of these ways:

• By email invoice from Vorwerk: you’ll receive an email directly from Vorwerk to proceed with payment

• Through finance: currently arranged via Novuna in the UK

• By card, face-to-face only: paid directly on the Vorwerk platform in front of you. I wouldn’t recommend giving card details over the phone; if you’re paying by card directly, it should be done in person, directly on Vorwerk’s own system

Your receipt will also come directly from Vorwerk, not from the advisor or a third-party site. If you’re ever asked to pay an advisor personally, transfer money to a private account, or pay through a website that isn’t Vorwerk’s own platform, treat that as a serious warning sign.

5. Advisors don’t hold stock themselves

Every Thermomix is delivered directly from Vorwerk’s own warehouse — advisors don’t keep Thermomixes in storage to sell on. So if a website or seller claims to have a “spare one,” extra stock, or machines sitting in their own warehouse ready to go, that’s another red flag. A genuine order always ships from Vorwerk, not from the advisor. You will also get a notification to tell you your order has been shipped and it's on its way.

6. Trust your instincts

If a deal feels rushed, if you’re being pushed to pay by bank transfer instead of Vorwerk’s own payment platform, or if you can’t find any real information about the seller beyond the listing itself — stop and ask questions first.
